How to Apply
The Harrisburg Singers Vocal Scholarship
Applicant Requirements:
- Applicant must be a graduating senior form a high school in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry or York Counties.
- The applicant who has been home-schooled is eligible providing criteria listed below are satisfied.
- The scholarship is for a one-time designated amount of $1000.00, drafted to both the winner and the institution of higher education.
- Verification of application and acceptance from an accredited college, university, or conservatory for the study of Music Education, Music Performance, or Music Theater must be presented prior to the receipt of scholarship funds. Attendance at such institution must begin with the following fall semester.
- One scholarship will be awarded to the top scoring candidate of a final audition as stated below.
- The scholarship will be withdrawn if the winner fails to begin his or her higher education career at the expected date or designated institution.

- Mail the application, copies of your music, and a preliminary audition CD (requirements listed below) to:

- Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, December 30, 2011.
Scholarship Preliminary Audition Requirements:
- Two selections of contrasting nature should be included on the preliminary audition CD.
- Solo literature (an aria or an art song) is required. (Contemporary or pop songs are not appropriate)
- If an applicant is a Music Theater major, a Broadway selection is acceptable in addition to an aria or an art song.
Scholarship Final Audition Requirements:
- Scholarship applicants selected to audition for the judges will be notified by letter to perform a final audition at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 West Main St., Hummelstown, PA 17036. The audition date is on Sunday, February 5, 2012. Inclement weather date: Sunday, February 19, 2012.
- Two selections of contrasting nature are to be performed from memory. The selections may be the same as used in the preliminary audition CD.
- Solo literature (an aria or an art song) is required. Contemporary or pop songs are not appropriate.
- If an applicant is a Music Theater major, a Broadway selection is acceptable in addition to an area or an art song.
- You may provide your own accompanist for the audition or one will be available. A taped (prerecorded) accompaniment is not permissible. In addition, the accompanist may use only originals of your music.
Scholarship Acceptance Requirement:
- The scholarship winner will be requested to perform a vocal solo, chosen from the audition music, at each of three Harrisburg Singers spring concerts. Dates and venues are:
- Friday, April 27, 2012 - Faith Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg
- Saturday, April 28, 2012 - Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill
- Sunday, April 29, 2012 - Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg
